Spooky, Starry & Full of Island Charm
Halloween on Nantucket brings costumes, pumpkins, trick-or-treating and plenty of seasonal fun to the island. From family-friendly nature activities and spooky walks to the annual Main Street Halloween Parade, there are plenty of ways to celebrate throughout Halloween week.
Here’s a look at what’s happening around Nantucket for Halloween 2026.
Wednesday, October 28
Trails and Treats
3–5 p.m. | Linda Loring Nature Foundation, 110 Eel Point Road
Kick off Halloween week with Trails and Treats at the Linda Loring Nature Foundation. Families can explore the trails while enjoying nature- and Halloween-themed activities along the way. The free event is geared toward families with children in pre-K through fifth grade, and costumes are welcome. No registration is required.
Thursday, October 29
H’Owl Watch: Halloween Owl Watch
5–7 p.m. | Maria Mitchell Association
Discover Nantucket after dark during the Maria Mitchell Association’s special Halloween Owl Watch. Guests will listen for owls and other nocturnal wildlife while learning about the creatures that become active after sunset.
The program is designed for adults and children ages eight and older, and advance registration is required.
Friday, October 30
Spooky Walk-Through & Trick-or-Treating at the Whaling Museum
4:30–6 p.m. | Whaling Museum, 13 Broad Street
Stop by the Nantucket Whaling Museum for a spooky walk-through and a little extra trick-or-treating. This family-friendly Halloween event is free and makes an easy addition to an evening downtown.
Spooky Walk: Downtown to Hinchman House
5–7 p.m. | Downtown Nantucket
Join the Maria Mitchell Association for a Halloween-themed walk from downtown Nantucket to the Hinchman House Natural Science Museum.
Along the way, families can explore the spooky side of Nantucket nature, learn about unusual animal adaptations and island lore, and participate in seasonal activities. Costumes are welcome.
The Spooky Walk will also be offered again on Saturday, October 31.
Halloween Stargazing at Loines Observatory
7:30–8:30 p.m. | Loines Observatory, 59 Milk Street Extension
Celebrate Halloween under Nantucket’s night sky during a special edition of the Maria Mitchell Association’s Stargazing Open Night.
Professional astronomers will guide guests through views of planets, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies using the observatory’s telescopes. Costumes are welcome, and advance registration is recommended.
Saturday, October 31
Free Halloween Movies at the Dreamland
Beginning at 12 p.m. | Nantucket Dreamland, 17 South Water Street
The Dreamland is celebrating Halloween with a full lineup of free seasonal movies throughout the day.
The 2026 schedule includes:
- 12 p.m. – It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
- 1:30 p.m. – Hocus Pocus
- 5 p.m. – Beetlejuice
- 8 p.m. – Halloween
Reservations are recommended for the free screenings.
Main Street Halloween Parade & Costume Contest
3:15 p.m. + | Downtown Nantucket
One of Nantucket’s most beloved fall traditions returns to Main Street on Halloween afternoon.
Costumed children and adults are encouraged to gather at the bottom of Main Street around 3:15–3:30 p.m., with the parade beginning at 4 p.m.
The Lieutenant Max Wagner Memorial Fountain will also serve as a gathering place for Halloween festivities, including candy and the annual carved pumpkin contest.
Main Street will be closed to vehicles during the celebration, so plan ahead if you’re heading downtown.
Halloween in the Courtyard
4–6 p.m. | Nantucket Atheneum, 1 India Street
While you’re downtown, stop by the Nantucket Atheneum’s Garden Courtyard and Weezie Library steps for Halloween treats and festive decorations.
The event is free and open to children, tweens and teens.
Spooky Walk: Downtown to Hinchman House
5–7 p.m. | Downtown Nantucket
The Maria Mitchell Association’s Spooky Walk returns for a second evening on Halloween.
Families can meet downtown before making their way toward the Hinchman House Natural Science Museum while discovering some of the stranger and spookier sides of Nantucket’s natural world.
Costumes are encouraged.
Nantucket Ghost Walk – Town Route
8 p.m. | Centre & Main Streets
For those looking for a little more mystery, explore some of Nantucket Town’s reportedly haunted locations during an evening Ghost Walk.
The approximately 75- to 80-minute walking tour travels through historic downtown while sharing stories from Nantucket’s past.
Halloween at The Chicken Box
10:30 p.m.–1 a.m. | The Chicken Box
For a late-night Halloween celebration, Elephant in the Room returns to The Chicken Box for its annual Halloween Party.
Costumes, live music and a lively island crowd make it a fun way to close out Halloween night.
