“If you’ve spent any time in New England this winter, you know that the weather in March was anything but inviting. Whether we can blame the heavy rain, high winds and canceled ferries or not, it’s not particularly surprising to see that March sales volume was down 60 percent from this time last year. That correlates with the reduced activity we saw in new contracts. Blended first quarter figures show transaction activity through the first three months of the year ended down only seven percent while dollar volume was up 13 percent (thanks to high-end sales in January). With inventory steadily rising, will the blooming daffodils and longer days encourage buyers to spring into action such that the second quarter will be more vibrant? We’ll have to see and will certainly be keeping a close eye on inventory levels and new contracts as we head into April… ” Jennifer Shalley Allen
