Meredith Hanson is a local Nantucket artist who teaches art lessons in home or on location to children of all ages. During the end of the summer season, her artist’s work comes together in a unique art show at Samuel Owen Gallery.
Mer’s students can choose from a number of beautiful locations to paint from including Sankaty lighthouse, Town, Chanticleer garden, Brant Point, Siasconset Union Chapel, Children’s beach, Old South Wharf, Monomoy harbor and more!
Mer introduces a tonal painting approach to begin the lesson. Her students enjoy picking from various transparent hues to begin their wash. Drawing skills are sharpened and structured in the first few stages of the painting. Mer teaches and guides her students through color mixing and how to “edit” a painting. Not only are acrylics safe for students to use, they also dry quickly so your artist will be able to bring home a finished and fabulous work of art!
Mer is an oil, acrylic, pastel, and gouache painter who studied art and art history at Wheaton College in Norton, MA. After graduating from Wheaton in 2011, Mer packed her bags and moved to Nantucket! With an eye for color and love for exploring, Mer has journeyed all over the island to find the best painting locations!
