A Record-Breaking Weekend
Swim Across America Nantucket
This past Saturday, the shores of Jetties Beach were filled with heart, hope, and hometown pride as Nantucket hosted the 13th annual Swim Across America event. Organized to raise funds for cancer care and research, the swim has become a deeply meaningful tradition for the island—and this year, it made history.
Despite the unpredictable July weather, with strong north winds and an unusually low tide, the spirit of the event didn’t miss a beat. Safety conditions limited the swim to a symbolic dip in the shallow waters, but the energy and community support were as strong as ever. Hundreds of islanders and visitors gathered in solidarity, raising more than $1 million—a new record for the Nantucket swim.
Fisher Principal Broker Jen Allen has raised $14,000 and counting, Fisher Broker Joelle Bouchard spent the morning with her camera in hand capturing the magic, and Fisher Broker Lara Hanson set her alarm clock in the wee hours of the morning to once again volunteer at check-in.
One of the most powerful moments came during the “Why I Swim” presentation, when Nantucket High School graduate Ryan Murray (Class of 2011) shared his personal story. Diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer at just 30 years old, Ryan returned home from the West Coast to seek treatment at Nantucket Cottage Hospital—the very hospital where he was born. Thanks in part to the incredible care provided at the Swim Across America Infusion Center, Ryan stood before the crowd on Saturday to share that he is now cancer-free.
The funds raised through this event directly support local cancer care on Nantucket as well as vital oncology research. Last year’s record of $885,000 was already a remarkable milestone, but this weekend’s total not only surpassed it—it redefined what this community can achieve together.
At Fisher Real Estate, we’re honored to support and celebrate events like Swim Across America that embody the strength and compassion of the Nantucket community. Whether you were there in person or cheering from afar, this is a moment of island unity we won’t soon forget.
