Explore Nantucket’s History on Two Wheels with the New NHA Bike Tours!
Here’s a fresh, exciting way to experience Nantucket’s rich history this season! The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) is launching Historic Bike Tours to give visitors a whole new perspective on the island’s incredible stories. Whether you’re a history buff, a casual visitor, or just love a good bike ride, this two-hour guided tour is an adventure you won’t want to miss!

The tour takes participants on an engaging ride through iconic NHA historical sites while uncovering lesser-known gems. It not only explores Nantucket’s historic downtown but also ventures beyond, providing a more comprehensive look at the island’s diverse past.
What can you expect from the NHA Bike Tour?
This isn’t your typical history lesson! The NHA’s new bike tour is a deep-dive into centuries of local history—starting all the way back in the Ice Age and fast-forwarding to modern times. You’ll learn about the contributions of Nantucket’s diverse communities, discover how islanders creatively managed its limited resources, and even visit historic cemeteries where some of Nantucket’s most influential figures are laid to rest.
The first ride kicks off on Friday, May 16, 2025, as part of the popular “Unwind Under the Whale” program. To celebrate, the inaugural tour is offered at a discounted rate. Additional tours will be available throughout the season.
Need a bike? No worries! The NHA has partnered with Young’s Bicycle Shop to offer discounted rentals (traditional bikes or e-bikes) for participants who don’t have a bike of their own. Plus, riders will be equipped with wireless transmitters for crystal-clear guided narration throughout the tour.
Fisher is thrilled to see innovative programs like this expanding opportunities to experience Nantucket’s rich history. For visitors and locals alike, it’s a perfect way to combine an active day out with a new appreciation for everything the island has to offer.
Fisher tip: Mark your calendars and book your spot early! This is bound to become one of Nantucket’s most sought-after activities.
