Shoot for the Stars: An Evening to Support Nantucket S.T.A.R. and Its Transformative Mission

This June, community members and supporters are invited to play a pivotal role in the next stage of growth for Nantucket Sports & Therapeutic Accessible Recreation (S.T.A.R.)—an organization that has empowered island families for over 20 years. The Shoot for the Stars fundraiser will be held on Saturday, June 28 at 5:00 p.m. at the Great Harbor Yacht Club, and promises to be an unforgettable evening of celebration, impact, and inspiration.

Nantucket S.T.A.R.’s mission is rooted in inclusivity—offering recreational programs that embrace the diverse strengths and abilities of children and young adults with identified special needs. Through innovative programming and strong community partnerships, S.T.A.R. helps build confidence, develop skills, foster independence, and cultivate friendships that last a lifetime.

To date, S.T.A.R. has provided over 22 unique programs in collaboration with 20 local partners—including S.T.A.R.s on Ice, Ocean Adventures, Chopped, Sensory Art, and Adventure Pods. These offerings have become lifelines for many island families. As one parent shared, “Without S.T.A.R., our children wouldn’t have extracurricular activities and would be missing out on learning new skills, meeting people, and building old and new friendships.”

The Shoot for the Stars benefit will include:

• A premiere screening of S.T.A.R.’s new impact film

• Delicious hors d’oeuvres and refreshments

• A live and silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind chairs designed by renowned artists and creatives

• Heartfelt appearances and stories shared by several of the organization’s incredible Stars

In addition to supporting ongoing program costs and specialized staff, this year’s fundraiser has a critical new goal: raising funds for a handicap-accessible van that will ensure all participants have safe and equitable access to S.T.A.R.’s year-round programming.
