Whether you call Nantucket home for a week, a summer, or all year, the Nantucket Cottage Hospital is vital to this beautiful island and the people lucky enough to be here. I am so grateful that it provides extraordinary care to all who need it 30 miles out to sea. Boston Pops on Nantucket
This year, Craig and Francis Lindner will chair the 20th anniversary Boston Pops on Nantucket on August 13, 2016. Multi-platinum artist and two-time Grammy award winner Kenny Loggins will be the special musical guest. I am especially excited to hear a few of my favorites from the soundtracks of Caddyshack, Footloose, and Top Gun. While tables and reserved seating are already sold out, you still have time to grab general admission tickets and enjoy the show from your own beach chair. And who doesn’t love BYOB? I’ll be there with my family, a bottle of rose, and some yummy treats. If you would rather give your time, they are still actively recruiting volunteers too! This event raises funds to support the hospital’s annual operation and keep those doors open 365 days a year. Oh, and the fireworks cannot be beat (sorry 4th of July)!
Swim Across America
Swim Across America is another feel-good event that should be on your radar. Swimmers of all ages and levels are invited to join together and swim to raise funds that go directly to support and expand cancer care on Nantucket. Not a swimmer? Sign up to volunteer or simply come to cheer the swimmers on! The 2015 event raised over $310,000 for on-island cancer care services at Nantucket Cottage Hospital and Palliative & Supportive Care of Nantucket! This inspirational event included 287 children and adults swimming, as well as 65 volunteers to help make it a true success. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? With our own Principal Broker, Jen Shalley swimming and many of our team members volunteering, we hope to see you there! The New Nantucket Cottage Hospital
And, did you know our island community is getting closer and closer to having a brand new hospital that we so desperately need? This hospital will be modern, more efficient, and promises to maximize privacy and safety for patients and hospital staff. The new building will be so much more efficient, it will actually lower operating costs which will allow them to invest more funds into programs and services instead of their old and inefficient facility. The building now has HDC and planning board approval and you can see renderings on their website. So far, NCH has $75 million in commitments and continues to near their goal of $89 million. Help them reach their goal by going online to donate and remember every donation helps, big and small.
