From July 9-11, the Nantucket Conservation Foundation’s annual Race for Open Space will take place. The event will be held both virtually and in-person. Contestants can meet other in-person runners on July 10th at the Milestone Cranberry Bog, or submit their times virtually as they race from wherever they want within the July 9-11 time frame.
Any proceeds from the Race for Open Space event are to be allocated to the Nantucket Conservation Foundation’s Land Fund. The Nantucket Conservation Foundation is a privately held non-profit on Nantucket that conserves and protects over 9,000 natural Nantucket areas, relying on donations to do so. They function with the mission to, “assist in the preservation of Nantucket’s character by permanently conserving, maintaining, and managing natural areas and habitats and to encourage an appreciation of and interest in the Island’s natural resources.” The foundation is very active in the community: conducting beneficial research projects, offering trail tours, and managing their many areas to be accessible at all times.
When July 9th rolls around and you’re planning on running virtually and sending in your times, here are some things to remember:
– You can run any course of your choosing.
– To track your time just pick any mobile app that works for you.
– You can run anytime between July 9th and July 11th.
– There should be a link sent with your registration email that you can use to upload your results.
– All you have to do is enter your time, and upload a screenshot.
– Make sure your results are uploaded before 11:59 PM on July 11th.
The Nantucket Conservation Foundation will send out more instructions on how to upload results before the race period. Besides all that, you can expect the results of the race to be released on July 12th after the race period has been completed.
