The Theatre Workshop of Nantucket (TWN) is an organization on Nantucket with the mission to “entertain, enrich, educate, challenge and inspire performing artists and audiences of all ages.” This year TWN has an exciting new slate of theatre workshop experiences, and they’re kicking it off this summer at one of the coolest locations on island: Bartlett’s Farm!
During the summertime event that runs from July 7th to August 22nd, TWN will be bringing back one of their most beloved productions — 2017 hit Mamma Mia!. An exciting performance “under the stars” that the whole family can sing along to, the return of Mamma Mia! is sure to be a knock-out hit. Featuring songs “Money, Money, Money,” “Dancing Queen,” “Super Trouper,” “Voulez Vous,” and more, you won’t want to miss this fun-filled event.
TWN’s other summertime event, A Grand Night For Singing will also take place at Bartlett’s Farm. A Grand Night For Singing packs a collection of classic songs from the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein duo in one extraordinary production. Theatre Workshop of Nantucket proclaims that “this Tony-nominated revue takes a journey through this sensational duo’s incredible canon of classic tunes.” A Grand Night For Singing follows a similar schedule to Mamma Mia! and is running from July 21st to August 20th.
In the fall, TWN returns to Bennett Hall, the organization’s home base on Centre Street, to perform Neil Simon’s London Suite. A 4-part series of vignettes that are bound to leave you laughing out loud, London Suite is a TWN event you will want to be sure you mark your calendar for. London Suite comes after the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket’s big hit of 2019, California Suite. The show is deemed by the New York Times to “make laughter easy,” and TWN says it “brings back some familiar characters.” Be on the lookout for London Suite from September 9th to September 25th.
To cap out the year, TWN is bringing us Forever Plaid: Plaid Tidings running throughout the holiday season. The “holiday-themed” show is the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket’s new rendition of the classic musical Forever Plaid. “Holiday carols,” and “hysterical comic interludes” make Forever Plaid: Plaid Tidings a holiday-season must! You can expect Forever Plaid: Plaid Tidings to be playing from November 26th to December 4th.
