We are thrilled to collaborate with the Artists Association of Nantucket this year to feature their talented artist members. The AAN is a non-profit organization supporting Nantucket artists, providing educational programs in the arts, and preserving the legacy of Nantucket artists. Visit their website, their gallery at 19 Washington Street, their studio at 24 Amelia Drive, or give them a call at (508) 228-0294.

For the month of May we are pleased to feature Maggie Murray, a great young artist member who is working for AAN as the Gallerist at the Big Gallery on Straight Wharf.

Maggie Murray Biography

Maggie has been an artist member with AAN since September ’20, and teaches mixed media with the organization. She holds a BA from Simmons College in Arts Administration with a minor in Art History. Maggie currently resides on island with her husband and labradoodle Axel Rose.

Maggie’s Statement

“My work is inspired by my experience growing up on this island. For me, Nantucket has always been a place that reflects the cycle of nature. Living in this town bares witness to bustling, vibrant, and abundant summers that inevitably turn to quiet, grey, isolating winters, and back again. This focus brings to light several themes including the passage of time, wildlife, the nature around us, ever-present juxtapositions and the threads that connect it all together, I choose to employ techniques in mixed media to symbolize parts coming together to form a whole.”
