Egan Maritime’s Nantucket Shipwreck and Lifesaving Museum has launched children’s programs at the Museum this summer for children ages six to ten! Every Wednesday from July 11 to August 15, the Museum will offer a two hour educational program for children. A specialized age-appropriate tour will be included along with other select activities.
Come play fun outside maritime games, make an instrument and sing along to sea shanties and enjoy painting maritime scenes with watercolors. Learn printmaking with local artist David Lazarus, learn the art of knot tying with Harbormaster Sheila Lucey and more! The cost is $25 per child per session.

July 11 – Shipwreck Stories
Please join us for a tour to talk about shipwrecks around Nantucket and how the people on the ships were saved. Be a captain on board a merchant ship and watch for shoals. View two films – “You Have To Go Out,” which tells of the wreck of the H.P. Kirkham off the Rose & Crown shoal in 1892 and “Marshall: A Nantucket Sea Dog”, the story of a Newfoundland rescued from the W.F. Marshall in 1877, all followed by outside maritime games.
July 18 – Printmaking Workshop
Come learn about the traditional art of printmaking and make your own maritime prints with local artist David Lazarus. Lesson and supplies included.
July 25 – Knot-Tying
Come watch Harbormaster Sheila Lucey demonstrate the fine art of knot tying and then participate in the making of your own knot tying craft.

Nantucket Shipwreck and Lifesaving Museum Weekly Lectures:
An additional new offering for the Museum’s anniversary year: on Thursday mornings through August 23, 10:00 am to 10:30 a.m. , a variety of local experts will give a talk on various maritime subjects such as the history of the island’s three lighthouses, the history of the Fresnel lens and its mechanics, the stories of the lighthouse keepers and their families, boating safety today, and fun unknown maritime facts. Museum mariner talks are included with museum admission. Speakers and topics by week are as follows:

Egan Maritime’s Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum is located at 158 Polpis Road, just 3.5 miles from Nantucket Town. The museum and gift shop will open for the season on Saturday, May 26 and will close on Columbus Day, Monday, October 8, 2018. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sundays Noon to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 – 18, and free to children under 6.
