2026 Nantucket Climate Change Summit: Building a More Resilient Island

As an island community, Nantucket has a unique relationship with its natural environment. On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, residents, local organizations, scientists, and community leaders will come together for the 4th Annual Nantucket Climate Change Summit to explore how a changing climate is affecting the island and how Nantucket can prepare for the future.

Hosted by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation and the Linda Loring Nature Foundation, this year’s summit is centered around the theme “Place-Based Coastal Resilience: Integrating Scientific Data with Local Knowledge.”

The 2026 program will feature scientists and community climate action team members from the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, including Dr. Hannah Baranes, Gayle Bowness, and Steph Sun. Together, they will explore coastal resilience and the importance of combining scientific research with the knowledge and experiences of local communities.

For Nantucket, conversations like these are especially important. The summit provides an opportunity to better understand the changes taking place around the island while learning about strategies that can help protect Nantucket’s landscapes and community for generations to come.

Following the program, attendees are invited to stay for a social hour with light food and beverages, offering an opportunity to continue the conversation and connect with neighbors.

The Nantucket Climate Change Summit is presented in partnership with the Community Foundation for Nantucket’s ReMain Nantucket Fund, Great Harbor Yacht Club, and Great Harbor Yacht Club Foundation.
