Is that a squash court in your home?

This blog is from our seven part Year in Review series “Topics of Note Influencing the Nantucket Real Estate Market in 2021.” Read the comprehensive real estate analysis here.

When looking to sell your property it’s important to set it apart from the field. Most properties on Nantucket are uniquely different but have similar amenity offerings. More and more we are seeing homes with pools, tennis courts or bocci courts. You can’t sell a house these days without an outdoor shower (many buyers don’t realize how easy they are to install). My favorite home a few years back was on Pond View and this property had four outdoor showers. In fact, the master bedroom on the second floor had its own outdoor shower instead of a Juliet balcony.

This year though, it seemed as we had some extremely unique properties which were the talk of the market for one reason or another. No, it wasn’t the view, the movie theatre or the infinity edge pool…

70 Hooper Farm Road- Squash Court

This property was listed in the height of the pandemic when buyers were looking for their own getaway. This property, located in mid-Island offered a unique exercise opportunity, your very own squash court. Realistically, the buyer of this property would not live in this location, instead it would be an opportunity to have additional housing and control of your squash games.

12 Wannacomet Road – Bowling Alley

Sold by Brian Sullivan – Fisher Real Estate

In the height of the summer, this incredibly property came onto the market and it seems every client of mine asked to see the property with the Bowling Alley. The two acres, the beautiful pool or the fabulous kitchen was not part of the description for this property in a buyer’s eyes! While we all know the bowling alley did not sell this property, it did give it a leg up in our market!

1 Pochick Avenue – Golf Hole

While this property has been on and off the market for 7 years, it makes sense that this was the year that the property received multiple offers and sold for close to asking price. As buyers are looking for that special amenity, this property certainly has it!

In a time where we are all spending more and more time at home, we anticipate these unique property features will continue to expand. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on the newest trends!
