Fishing Report

nantucket fishing report - bill fisher outfitters

While the fishery has yet to explode, it is getting better and better. There has been a lot of fog this week, so less boat action than we might have expected, but that means that air temps are increasing! We know on the mainland it has turned to summer already, where out here, it still feels like Spring. We are hearing fish reported daily, but still no major biomass… It will come, don’t worry about that!

The mackerel have shown up which is always fun and there are squid in the sound. To get the mackerel, you need to fish the end of the jetties. Sabiki rigs or small tube lures work, but you will need small hooks. This action is so fun! If you have a child that loves to fish and you have access to a boat… go! The mackerel fishing is just fun! Simple, old school fun!

As for stripers, the south shore and west end are our recommended spots. This early in the season use metals, bucktails or small swimming plastics if fishing the south shore and if you are fishing calmer waters, go for some fun on the surface. These fish are active and love poppers.

Lastly, if you are able to get out and fish at all, stop by the tackle shop before you go so that you can sign up for Rafeal’s Sea Run Bass tourney. This is one of the best tourney’s going. Entry for kids is free and adults is $25. The person who wins, chooses the charity that benefits from the funds raised. How cool, right?
