We are thrilled to collaborate with the Artists Association of Nantucket this year to feature their talented artist members. The AAN is a non-profit organization supporting Nantucket artists, providing educational programs in the arts, and preserving the legacy of Nantucket artists. For the month of April we are pleased to feature longtime favorite Nantucket artist, and longtime AAN artist member, G.S. Hill.

G.S. Hill Biography

Greg Hill, born in 1944 and raised in Southern California, demonstrated his artistic talent with his first oil painting at age 12. Through the gift of his natural talent and dedicated perseverance he has achieved “his claim to fame” as an accomplished artist who is as versatile in mediums as he is in subject matter.

Hill and his wife, Judi, were married in August 1968. Their honeymoon was a four-month adventure in Europe. That trip solidified their passion for each other and birthed their love of travel. In the past 40 years they have visited over 60 countries on 6 continents. Hill, also an avid photographer, has documented their travels through photographs and these photos have been brought to life on canvas over the years.

During his career, Hill has had one man exhibits in Paris, Tokyo, Sydney and numerous cities throughout the United States. He is honored to have a collection of his graphite drawings of Nantucket in the permanent collection of the Nantucket Whaling Museum.

The Hills spend their winters traveling and visiting with family and friends. They have had winter homes in Maui, Big Sur coast, and currently live on Skidaway Island, Georgia where he exhibits his work at his winter studio.

The G.S. Hill Gallery was established in 1979 on Nantucket where Greg and Judi continue to welcome visitors on Straight Wharf with Greg’s newest inspirations, beautiful Nantucket lightship baskets and specialty gifts from Hill’s of Nantucket.

“I have traveled worldwide since 1964 and have found Nantucket to offer me never ending inspiration, subjects and artistic fulfillment. I am beginning my 43rd year at my gallery here on Nantucket and am looking forward to many more seasons of creating.”
