Quince by Quinn

It’s not often that you get a call from a buyer in their 30’s who’s looking for a historic home, but my client came from one of the original half-share Nantucket families and wanted to continue the family tradition.

After looking at several 200 year plus old homes, we came across a 15 Quince Street located at the top of Academy Hill which had been built in 1812 by Joseph Edwards. Edwards was noteworthy in that he was both a shipwright and a house carpenter, professions that usually didn’t overlap. Remarkably, Edwards was 27-years old when he built the house!

The previous owner had been on the board of the Nantucket Historical Association and had taken great care of the home while residing there year-round. Still, the house was 212 years old so there were many reasons that we wanted to do our due diligence.

The buyers were appropriately thorough, and we had multiple trips with contractors to allay our concerns about the structure of the house, water damage, powder post beetles, etc.

Fortunately, all reports came back positive and we were able to move ahead with the transaction swiftly. The seller was very helpful and considerate with their time and knowledge of the home, even leaving behind a file of pictures and historical records of the home for the new homeowners. All-in-all, it was a great experience and I’m excited to see the new owners enjoy their home with their family as the legacy lives on here on Nantucket.
