Thanks to our friends over at ReMain Nantucket for this guest blog on their new Nantucket bike app!
Do you know which beloved children’s television star lived on Nantucket? Which island animal arrived via lumber truck, and which was dumped into island ponds by hopeful fishermen? Do you know what Siasconset means? Or why the cranberry is called the cranberry? Where do you find whales? The oldest house on the island? Striped cliffs? Green Meadows, The Two Greeks, the Madaket Mall?
Whether you are a visitor, a seasonal resident, or a year-rounder looking to learn more about the island while getting outside, the trACK Nantucket bike app offers an excellent and free activity for you! We at Remain Nantucket, along with a team of island experts, graphic designers, and software developers, created trACK Nantucket to encourage exploration of the island by bicycle.
Hop on your bike and select one of the eight unique island tours offered by the app. Syncing with phone GPS systems, the app offers turn-by-turn audio directions between popular island spots. Alerts will tell you when to pull over for landmark stops, where you can access insider knowledge and share photos offering additional perspectives of each site.
We have taken care not only to map the routes, but also to integrate safe stopping spots from which to view each landmark. Information is presented in easy-to-swallow bites, and covers an impressive range of island geography, geology, history, architecture, and lore.
We’ve really enjoyed creating this Nantucket bike app and testing it out! Many of our long-time islander friends have been surprised at how much they didn’t know before riding with trACK Nantucket bike app. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. Enjoy your ride!
