Best Nantucket Activities on the Water

If you’re here on the island, you better be getting out on the water! From fishing to sailing to surf lessons and harbor cruises, there’s something to suit every taste. Here are a few of our favorites- the best Nantucket activities on the water.

Where is Nantucket

Fishing

If you’re looking to wet a line, head over to Madaket and hop on a charter by Bill Fisher Outfitters. This outfit specializes in fly and spin fishing. Depending on the time of year, you could be catching Stripers, Bonito, Albies, or Bluefish! The Just Do It Too is also an excellent option which departs right from town. Perfect for families and large groups, you’ll leave with a fresh catch ready to be thrown on the grill and enjoyed! And if you’re looking to learn more about our waters, check out our periodic fishing report!

Boating

If you’d rather see than do, try Nantucket Tug Company, which offers sunset and brunch cruises around the harbor. Complete with oysters, blue fish pate, champagne, and beer! Sailing lovers (or those wishing to try something new!) won’t want to miss the chance to board the Endeavor. This 31-foot friendship sloop is a Nantucket icon which provides day sails, a popular sunset sail, and even a pirate themed cruise for kids! Little ones will also enjoy the Critter Cruise by Monomoy Charters- it’s the perfect opportunity to learn about the sea-life that calls our harbor home.

If you want to try your own hand at boating, head over to Island Boat Rental on Straight Wharf. Take out a boat anywhere from 15-20 feet in length and head out into the sound to fish. Or simply anchor out by Coteau and enjoy the sand. If you’re looking to take out something a little bigger, Kelly Boat offers a number of upscale crafts, complete with USCG certified captains!

Surfing

You don’t have to head to Hawaii to catch some waves- do it right here on our little island! Nobadeer and Cisco beaches are surfing hot spots on our south shore. So head out and grab a lesson from ACK Surf School or Nantucket Island Surf School. Both offer private lessons, and Nantucket Island Surf School also offers board rentals for those who already feel comfortable on the water.
