Nantucket Triathlon Race Day Experience & A Timeline Overview of July 18–19
Friday evening: Packet pick-up (5–8:30 pm), followed by bike racking and overnight security
Race morning (Saturday) Wave start times ensure a safe, efficient race flow for individuals and relay teams:
5 am: Road closes and transition area opens
6:15 am: Pre-race meeting & National Anthem
6:30 am: Time-trial start in age/gender waves
Nantucket Triathlon Course Breakdown
Swim – 450 yards (~1/3 mile):
Time-trial start: athletes enter two at a time every five seconds. Self-seeded by swimming ability. Water temps in the low 70s °F; wetsuits optional
Bike – 13.4 miles:
Out-and-back route from Jetties up to Madaket. Helmets required; single-file riding with quick passing only
Run – 3.4 miles:
Scenic loop through town streets ending back at the Jetties finish chute. Course shared with cyclists—signage and staff guide crossings
Post-Race & Community Vibe
Awards Ceremony: ~9:30 am at transition area
Post-race party at Cisco Brewers: 10 am onward, live music, local brews, and prizes like the “Fastest Transition” and a White Elephant auction prize for a two night stay. This festival-like finale embodies Nantucket’s charming, athlete-friendly spirit.
