Nantucket Shorts: A Film Festival with Island Flair

nantucket shorts festival

Fall on Nantucket is full of traditions — from the Cranberry Festival to the Halloween Parade — and one of our favorite creative celebrations is the Nantucket Shorts Festival, returning this October.

Since 2013, this unique film festival has been giving islanders and visitors alike a chance to see Nantucket through a different lens. Every film is short and sweet, and each one is either inspired by, filmed on, or connected to our island. It’s a night of storytelling, laughter, reflection, and plenty of surprises — all unfolding on the big screen at the Dreamland Theater.

This year’s festival takes place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, with screenings of the selected shorts followed by an awards ceremony. In true Nantucket fashion, the event also fosters community creativity: on Sunday, October 12, NCTV is hosting a free filmmaking workshop at the Dreamland. Whether you’re an experienced filmmaker or just curious, it’s a chance to learn the craft and maybe even spark an idea for next year’s entry.

For us at Fisher, what makes Nantucket Shorts so special is how it celebrates the voices, humor, and creativity of the community we love. Just like a favorite beach walk or downtown stroll, these films capture the essence of island life — in a way that’s uniquely Nantucket.

If you’re on island this fall, don’t miss it. Tickets will be available soon at nantucketshorts.com.
