Tidy Up, Do Good, and Win Big for Nantucket!
The Nantucket community continues to prove that small actions can make a big difference. Since its founding in 2019, the Nantucket Litter Derby has grown into one of the island’s most impactful community events, bringing together volunteers, local businesses, and organizations to help keep Nantucket clean and beautiful.
Over the years, participants have removed nearly 60 tons of litter from roadsides, beaches, and neighborhoods across the island. In 2025 alone, 23 teams collected nearly 15 tons of trash in just one weekend, showing the incredible impact that a motivated community can have when working together.
Now, the organizers are gearing up for the 7th Annual Nantucket Litter Derby in 2026, and everyone is encouraged to get involved.
The Derby is more than just a cleanup event — it’s a fun, competitive, and community-driven effort to protect Nantucket’s natural beauty. Participants form teams, collect litter around the island, and bring their findings to the official weigh-in where prizes and bragging rights are awarded.

The 7th Annual Nantucket Litter Derby will take place on April 11-12, 2026.
Registrations are now open, and teams are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. Register Here
Teams can consist of as few as two people or as many as six, making it accessible for groups of all sizes.
Participation in the Derby is free, and the first prize remains a $1,000 cash reward—plus the satisfaction of contributing to a cleaner, more beautiful island.
2026 Nantucket Litter Derby Dates and Times
Litter Collection Competition
Litter collection is all day Saturday, April 11th and Sunday, April 12th until NOON.
Weigh-In at Madaket Waste Facility
Litter drop-off will be on Sunday, April 12th at Nantucket Recycling Center after 1 pm. Litter must be sorted, we will have helpers to sort at drop off.
Teams will be scheduled into time slots between 1 pm and 3 pm and the slots are first come first served. Details will be emailed.
After party and Awards Ceremony
