Danno says, “This was a very special sale for me because of the great relationship I made with the homeowners. They had been on Nantucket for 30+ years and made the difficult decision to move off-island to be closer to their kids. Understandably, it was a very emotional transaction as the sellers had created some very strong bonds within the island community and it was very hard for them to say goodbye.

What was super interesting about this sale is that it was listed right after the Health Department mandated that all properties in Madaket had to update their septic systems to Innovative Alternative Systems. This was set up by the Health Department in the last year to help control and prevent sewage runoff. The homeowners did not want to take on the burden of replacing the system. So as a solution, we set up that the sale was contingent upon the sellers funding the septic upgrade with money for the project put in escrow until the install was complete. We were able to close this October and the install will be completed this off-season by the new owners.

This was a learning process for me as it was a new tweak set up by the town’s health department. I was really happy for my clients that we were able to keep the burden off of them and let them leave the island with no headaches in the sales process. The sellers were excited for the new homeowners because they had been renting out in Madaket for over a decade and will continue the love for the neighborhood and their new home.”
