Nantucket Walkabout Tour

Activities

A wilderness hike with Nantucket Walkabout is a great activity for the whole family. These hikes take place at Smith’s Point (the channel between Madaket Harbor and Tuckernuck Island). Known to locals as Esther’s Island, this area was named after the 1961 Hurricane Esther, which temporarily cut off half of Smith’s Point from the rest of the island. Now, Smith’s Point is Nantucket’s westernmost geographic point. Venture here to see seals sunbathing, piping plovers nesting, oyster farmers at work and great views of Tuckernuck Island. Smith’s Point is a perfect spot for kids with its shallow, calm harbor. Spot hermit crabs, minnows and other wildlife here with the kids!
