Fisher’s Top 10 “Must Do” on Nantucket

Our little island is home to a remarkable number of wonderful activities. From casual eats to fine dining and thrilling water sports to relaxing afternoons on the beach, we’ve got it all. So if you’re short on time, we’ve narrowed it down to 10 favorites that you can enjoy year after year!

Eat & Drink

Fisher Top 10 Must Do

It seems there are always new restaurants popping up along Main Street- so how do you choose? Some of our favorite eateries are those who tend to stick around, year after year. Black-Eyed Susans, located in the heart of Town on India Street, is a must do on Nantucket for breakfast. This special spot is cash only and B.Y.O.B, so bring a bottle of champagne and get the mimosas flowing!

For lunch or dinner, head over to Madaket Millie’s. A 30 minute bike ride from town, you can get those miles in before diving into a plate of tacos or a hearty quesadilla. They also offer awesome drinks, including their famous Madaket Mystery and the classic Blueberry Lemonade, made with Nantucket’s own 888 Blueberry Vodka. Millie’s doesn’t take reservations, so get there early if you don’t want to wait in line!

For a more refined dining experience, check out Straight Wharf Restaurant, located just steps from the waterfront. They serve up a delicious selection of sea food, including scallops, salmon, and their signature clam bake. Looking for something a little more land based? Try Straight Wharf’s ribeye, chicken, or tagliatelle!

If you frequent Nantucket, you’ve likely been asked if you’ve been to the Juice Bar. Don’t let the name fool you, this is a favorite island destination for homemade ice cream! Walk down Broad Street and you’ll be greeted by the smell of J Bar’s handmade waffle cones- it’s worth shelling out a few extra bucks for one of these.

While we may not have an official happy hour, that doesn’t mean you can’t make your own! Head over to Cru for awesome waterfront views before the dinner crowd rolls in. Or hop across to Old South Wharf and enjoy a beverage at Slip 14, or try a glass of wine on the lovely beachfront couches at the Galley. And don’t forget the iconic frozen mudslides of the Gazebo– they’re perfect for those looking to satisfy a sweet tooth before or after dinner!

Top 10 Must Do Nantucket

Nantucket features an expansive area of moors, protected by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation. Feel free to enjoy the walking trails that abound this undeveloped land, and bring your pets along! This is a great way to get to know some of our island’s less explored territory and catch a peaceful moment away from town.

Naturally, one of our must do’s on Nantucket is the beach! With so many to choose from, head to any side of our island and lay out your towel on beautiful stretches of sand. Or if you’re looking to pick up a new skill, head to Cisco beach! One of our many knowledgable surf instructors will help you catch some waves and learn the proper form. On your way back, reward yourselves for your efforts with a cold drink from the popular Cisco Brewery.

Those looking for a fishing adventure should hop on a charter in search of blues, bass, and scup. Or simply head to the south shore with a rod of your own and test your luck! If you’re lucky, you can take your catch home and throw it on the grill for an amazing fresh caught meal.

Alternatively, take a relaxed stroll around town accompanied by a beverage from Lemon Press, Handlebar Cafe, or Corner Table! Pop in and out of shops, or simply relax on one of our many benches and watch the world go by. In the evening, be sure to walk along the docks of Straight and Old South Wharfs. Marvel at massive crafts and charming sailboats lit up in the dark!
